What is Botox?

Botox ® cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is a purified protein that is used to minimize the frown lines. It has been administered in cosmetic procedures for more than six years. In the United States Botox ® has been used in approximately 9.4 million procedures.

What can Botox do for me?

When administered correctly by a trained professional, Botox can relax overactive muscles that causes creases around the eyes, forehead and between you eyebrows. This softens wrinkles and diminishes the formation of new ones. Visible results can be seen in just a few days with results that last up to four months.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
A proper Botox ® treatment does not make you expressionless. The muscle activity is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.

What should I expect during a visit?

Botox ® is administered in our office and the actual procedure takes about 10 minutes. We use a cold pack to numb the area. Tiny injections are administered directly into the muscles. There is no downtime. Some patients may experience redness, swelling, bleeding or bruising with the injections. Although these are not common, they can take place. We recommend avoiding aspirin or aspirin-containing products a week or two before your appointment.

Coastal Dermatology is registered as a National Botox Training Center, where we train other physicians on the use of Botox ®.
